Wikis

The ideas of Wikis are at first daunting to me. I think this is because I generally like to have order to my life and possessions. I was never one for a messy room. I have no problem sharing; it is just that I would like my things to be treated in the right manor. This is the underlying problem for me and Wikis. For me it feels that there is too much of a chance someone will sabotage the information within it. This may be down to my mistrust of many people out there on the web. This is because I have seen many of my friends IM’s or the social network profiles hacked into and ruined to ever place any information with a real importance in such a risky environment.

In saying that I do believe certain environments for Wikis can be advantageous. I have read some other blogs out there and agree that a Guest Book would be a great way to receive feedback for events at the SL. I also think that a book reviewing area on the site would be an interesting area for members of the public to contribute and interact with staff and other people who use the library to get a more communal feel to the library.

Another helpful use of Wikis could be in a training/learning environment as this. Everyone has their own way of going about things and could offer an insight into how to approach a different task. I remember many times in High School some of the quickest times I learnt something was amongst friends not always from the teacher. Sometimes it is good having two or more people interacting and each providing input on how they do a certain sum, equation or whatever the task may be.

Cheers
